CANOEING

Click Photo |
Canoeing on the Shoalhaven River is one
of the most favourite recreational activities of visitors to the area.
This beautiful stretch of river is surrounded by farms and unspoilt
wilderness. Most of this section of the river cuts a deep gorge through the
Morton National Park, so you will be surrounded by picturesque mountains
as you leisurely paddle down or up the river.
Canoeing can be combined with
other activities such as Swimming, Fishing and Picnicking. So get your
swimmers on, organise the fishing gear, make a picnic lunch, grab a
canoe and head out for a great day on the wonderful Shoalhaven River.
For
all your canoeing needs see the staff at Grady's Riverside Retreat.

SWIMMING
 |
With an abundance
of safe, clean, clear, unpolluted water to swim in you can always escape
the heat of the summer sun. There are many sandy little "beach" areas
and clear water holes to swim in, with varying depths, so the young ones
can paddle around in the sandy shallows as well.

|
FISHING
 |
The section of
the Shoalhaven River in front of Grady's Riverside Retreat is tidal and
saline, so you can still catch all the saltwater species of fish such as
Bream, Flathead, Mullet and even Bass.
Head further up river to chase after the most popular river sport
fish, the mighty Bass. Perch and Carp also inhabit the waters.
We have a range of fishing bait and tackle
available for those in need, including prawns, lures, hooks, sinkers,
swivels, fishing line, and handlines.

WATERSKIING
 |
Launch your Ski
Boat from our concrete boat ramp and turn right down the river for some
of the best uncrowded skiing around. With plenty of little sandy
"beaches" to launch from and vast stretches of deep wide straights to
power down, you wont forgive yourself if you forget to bring your ski
boat.
CAUTION: First timers to this area of the
river should be aware of the shallow sections and any snags, so just ask
one of the staff or regular skiers in the park for areas to watch out
for. |

4WDING
 |
There are
mountain and bush trails and tracks everywhere, the trouble is deciding
which direction to head off in. Whether you're looking for a scenic
place to have a picnic or you're just out for a leisurely Sunday cruise, you'll be spoilt for
choice. With so many beautiful places to stop along the way, don't
forget to pack a picnic, grab a camera and be blown away by the flora
and fauna of the geographically stunning mighty Morton National Park.
We sell both the Burrier and Yalwal topographical maps, so there is no
excuse for getting lost. |
|
BUSHWALKING

|
Drive, stop
and then walk or just walk from the start. The choice is yours, but one
thing is for sure, you'll be spoilt for choice with so many wonderful
bush tracks and trails heading off all over the place. Immerse yourself
in the great outdoors, stroll in the shade of the big Eucalypts, walk
along the riverbank or creeks, stop and take in the multidirectional
panoramic views as you wonder along the many cliff tops and plateaus.
Ask us about the many abandoned Gold Mines in the Yalwal area, and
take a trip into the past as you witness the relics of a "golden" era in
local history.
So grab your pack and one of our maps and hit the road Jack.

ROCK CLIMBING

|
With way too much
good quality rock to choose from, you'll have to come back and back
again and again and again and............... We are located
approximately 10 minutes drive West of world famous Thompson's Point
Nowra, which is one of the best pre-bolted sports climbing sites in
Australia. Beat the crowds at Thompson's Point and head out with all
your gear to one of the many cliff lines at the back of our place. Most
of these areas are pioneer stuff, so go out and make history!
If sea cliffs are your thing, then head out to the Majestic cliffs of
Point Perpendicular on the Northern Headland of Jervis Bay. The Point
Perpendicular cliffs have few bolted routes, so you'll need to bring
along some natural protection.
Thompson's Point and Point Perpendicular guides can be purchased from
all good climbing stores and gyms. To purchase these guides see
Hangdog Climbing Gym at
Wollongong. |
|
TRAIL BIKING
 |
You'll really hate
yourself if you head out this way and don't bring your trail bike along.
There is just too many places to mention here but you can ride for many
miles down countless different tracks without ever heading onto a public
road. If motor-crossing is your thing then head down to the Yerriyong
club track (located out the back of Albatross air base) for an
adrenaline pumping time. |
